Common plating for steel casting

• Zinc plating: the three common zinc plating types are yellow zinc plating, blue zinc plating and white zinc plating for steel precision casting products. Zinc plating is always used for carbon steel castings or some alloy steel castings which are subject to rust.
• Chrome plating: stainless steel castings are always required to be mirror polished and chrome plated to achieve an attractive bright surface. There are also a variety of chrome plating like bright chrome plating, black chrome plating, satin chrome plating and so on.
• Nickel pal ting: Nickel plating is also popular with stainless steel castings and alloy steel castings. And we can do brush nickel plating, pearl nickel plating, matt nickel plating, and other fancy nickel plating for our steel precision cast products.

Main application of plated steel castings

Antirust surface treatment: Even stainless steel castings can rust under certain environment, not to mention carbon steel castings, which are really subject to rust. Plating process is applied initially for purpose of corrosion resistance. Generally speaking, among the three common plating processes, zinc plating can be inferior to nickel plating and chrome plating for their antirust effect, that is why it is always used for cheep carbon steel cast products.

Surface decoration: Plating especially chrome plating, nickel plating and other fancy plating processes are normally used as a surface decoration means. Plating can achieve fancy surface effects like very bright surface, somewhat art effect and so on.

Typical plated steel casting

The largest group of plated steel cast products are furniture products, like chrome plated steel cast knob, steel cast arm rest, steel cast hinges. Besides steel cast furniture products, the other large serial products are kitchen hardware.

Zinc plated carbon steel cast products have very wide application. Lots of carbon steel cast machinery parts used on humid environment are zinc plated.

Fore treatment for steel casting plating

The fore treatment always involved into plating process is polishing. Like chrome plated and nicked plated steel precision castings are required to be mirror polished before plating. Besides, a similar treatment called brushing is also popular with nickel plated steel castings.

For zinc plated carbon steel casting, shot blasting and barrelling is necessary to clean the casting surface for following plating process.
