History of China investment casting

Investment casting is one of the oldest known metal-forming techniques. Five thousand years ago, people used beeswax to form the casting pattern, while today we use high-technology waxes like silica sol or acetic acid resin. And now lots of refractory materials and specialist alloys can be applied for investment casting process to produce components with accuracy, repeatability, versatility and integrity in a variety of metals and high-performance alloys.

Innovation of modern investment casting

A well known modern form of investment casting is lost foam casting which eliminates certain steps in the process. It is a type of evaporative-pattern casting process that is similar to investment casting except foam is used for the pattern instead of wax. This process takes advantage of the low boiling point of foam to simplify the investment casting process by removing the need to melt the wax out of the mold.

Application of investment casting industry

Investment casting is used in the aerospace and power generation industries to produce turbine blades with complex shapes or cooling systems. Blades produced by investment casting can include single-crystal, directionally solidified, or conventional equaled blades. It is also widely used by firearms manufacturers to fabricate firearm receivers, triggers, hammers, and other precision parts at low cost.
